GB3 QUALIFYING: Bearman and Alvarez take poles at Snetterton

Saturday, August 07 2021

Fortec's Oliver Bearman and Hitech GP's Sebastian Alvarez claimed their first GB3 pole positions in qualifying at Snetterton this morning (Saturday).

In a 20 minute session heavily affected by rain, it was all about the first half, with the fastest times all coming in the first seven minutes.

Bearman's overall best in the session, set on just his second lap, means he'll start race one from pole, with his effort of 1m57.338s being over eight tenths quicker than Alvarez, who will start second.

Alvarez will start race two from pole, with the grid for that contest decided by each driver's second best times.

The weather and the nature of the session means both races will have rather jumbled grids. Elite Motorsport's local man Tom Lebbon was third quickest, his best qualifying result of the season, with Fortec's Spa winner Roberto Faria fourth.

Championship leader Zak O'Sullivan will start seventh for race one, while Hitech GP's Reece Ushijima, second in the standings was 13th, and Christian Mansell (Carlin) 15th.

In contrast, series newcomers Branden Lee Oxley (Chris Dittmann Racing) and Tommy Smith (Douglas) had a positive start to life in GB3 by qualifying fifth and eighth for their debut races in the series.

There were positive results also for Javier Sagrera (Elite) in sixth, while Roman Bilinski was ninth for Arden ahead of Douglas Motorsport's Reema Juffali, who scored by far her best qualifying result of the season with 10th.

The race two grid is similarly jumbled, with Alvarez, Bearman and Lebbon taking spots in the top-three again ahead of Bilinski.

O'Sullivan is fifth on the race two grid, ahead of teammate Bryce Aron, with Elite's Jose Garfias seventh, having qualified 14th for race one.

Arden's Frederick Lubin and Fortec's Faria were eighth and ninth, with the Brazilian's teammate Mikkel Grundtvig completing the race two grid top-10.

Hitech GP's Bart Horsten failed to set a lap time in the session after sustaining damage to the left rear of his car, and will therefore start last for all three races this weekend.

The first race is due to commence at 13.45, with live timing available by clicking here.
