MSV welcomes the easing of restrictions from 19 July

Tuesday, July 06 2021

MotorSport Vision (MSV) has warmly welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson that Step 4 on the roadmap will come into force in England from 19 July.

This remains subject to a final review of the data on Monday 12 July, however the expectation is that all legal restrictions on social distancing will be removed one week later. This will mean the return of full crowds to MSV's five race circuits - Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park, Snetterton and Cadwell Park - for the first time since 2019.

The next major event scheduled to take place after this date is the Brands Hatch round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on 23-25 July.

MSV's Group Head of Sales and Marketing Tristan Harris commented: "The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everybody, and our industry has been hit particularly hard with enforced closures followed by severe limits on spectator numbers, even though our venues are completely outdoors with hundreds of acres of space.

"We have done everything possible to keep business activities operating whilst strictly adhering to government COVID-19 guidelines, which has been an enormous challenge. I am extremely grateful to all team members at MSV for their huge efforts, particularly in the past few weeks as we've had to contend with the delay to Step 4, originally scheduled for 21 June. Having to limit our spectator numbers to just 4,000 people, whilst other industries have been given significantly more freedom, has been both painful and frustrating - I'm so relieved that we can plan for full crowds once again.

"We understand that there will be many questions and we hope to answer these in full on or around 12 July, when more detail is due to be made available by the government. In the meantime, we will liaise with the relevant motorsport governing bodies to understand how they intend to update their own procedures for working areas of race meetings (i.e. the paddock and pit lane).

"Finally, I'd like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding during these unusual times. We can't wait to welcome you all back this summer!"
