GT RACE 2: Ram Racing Mercedes victorious at Snetterton

Sunday, August 08 2021

Ian Loggie and Yelmer Buurman fought back into British GT title contention with victory in the second British GT race of the day at Snetterton.

The pair led almost all the one hour contest in tricky wet conditions. The RAM Racing Mercedes started the race in second, but made the best of the rolling start to sweep around the outside of Dennis Lind's Lamborghini Huracan at Riches on the first lap.

An early safety car to recover a stranded car stopped their charge, but Buurman made an excellent restart, helped when GT4 traffic held up Lind, allowing Sandy Mitchell's Barwell car to move past, as well as the Aston Martin of Charlie Eastwood.

Buurman held an eight second lead when he pitted to hand over to Loggie, and the British driver led the remainder of the contest, despite fluctuating rain, to take the team's first win of the season.

The Mercedes finished over four and a half seconds clear of the Barwell machine of Adam Balon and Mitchell, with the WPI Lamborghini of Michael Igoe and Phil Keen claiming the final spot on the overall podium.

Ahmad Al Harthy and Eastwood claimed fourth after running in the top-three courtesy of Eastwood early on, with pole sitters Lind and Leo Machitski settling for fifth, just half a second ahead of the Andrew Howard/Jonny Adam Beechdean Aston Martin.

The Ford Mustang of Will Moore and Matt Cowley claimed GT4 honours ahead of the BMW M4 of Chris Salkeld and Andrew Gordon-Colebrooke.
