Cammish returns to BTCC with NAPA Racing UK

Wednesday, December 15 2021

Three-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Dan Cammish will make a return to the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship in 2022 at the wheel of a Ford Focus ST, having signed a deal with the NAPA Racing UK team.

Run by vastly experienced BTCC squad Motorbase Performance, NAPA Racing is a new name in the paddock but one already making big waves with the signing of Cammish, who only narrowly missed out on taking the 2019 title.

Cammish will head Motorbase's four car line-up, having exclusively raced Honda machinery so far in his BTCC career.

The Yorkshireman made his series debut with Team Dynamics' factory-backed outfit in 2018, taking two wins before his title challenge in 2019 was only stymied by a mechanical failure on the penultimate lap at Brands Hatch when on course to take the crown, having won two races and finished on the podium 12 times.

Four more wins followed in 2020, as well as six additional podiums as he finished third, but he returned to the Porsche Carrera Cup last season after financial reasons led to him losing his BTCC seat. Despite that disappointment, Cammish claimed his third Porsche title and is now targeting another run at the BTCC crown.

Cammish said: "I am very happy to be joining NAPA Racing UK ahead of the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season. It was obvious from my first time meeting Motorbase owner Pete Osborne that I wanted to be part of this program, and after spending quality time with the team, it is clear this is a very exciting time for all involved.

"Everyone is working hard to give the team the best possible chance and it fills me with confidence when I see the work taking place behind the scenes. I am incredibly proud to be representing NAPA in UK motorsport and I believe this is just the start of a long and successful partnership. This is a new chapter for me in the BTCC and I can't wait to get started and pick up where I left off."

Motorbase Performance Team Owner and Principal Pete Osborne said: "Dan was a key element for our plans going into 2022. It's a big year for us in many ways and we acknowledged that we needed a specific type of driver, of which there aren't many around. In Dan, we have someone we can really work with and rely on his talent and experience, along with his character.

"Dan had another really successful season in 2021 in Porsche Carrera Cup GB and he has a lot of unfinished business in the BTCC, so he's in the right place right now and knows exactly what to expect from us at NAPA Racing UK. As a driver and team, our targets are the same, we're expecting success on and off track and we aim to enjoy the journey together. The whole team is buzzing with excitement at the moment, there is a really good feeling about the future of Motorbase."

The 2022 BTCC season will start at Donington Park on 23-24 April, while also visiting Brands Hatch (Indy), Oulton Park and Snetterton before the traditional season finale on the Brands Hatch GP circuit on 8-9 October. Tickets are on sale now, click here to book or for more information.
