Plato makes BTCC return for 2021 season

Friday, January 22 2021

Jason Plato will return to the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship grid in 2021 to pilot one of Power Maxed Racing's Vauxhall Astras, following his sabbatical from the series last year.

The championship legend, who won his most recent BTCC race at Brands Hatch in 2019, could win his 100th race in the series this year and will pass the 600 race mark when the series begins in the spring.

Plato said: "Obviously 2020 was less than ideal for many of us but it gave me time to put a lot of things into perspective. I was lucky enough to be able to spend a lot more time than I normally would at home with the family, but I'm itching to get back in a race car now. It's the longest I've been without racing, and it's made me appreciate just how much I love it, and I have really missed my team.

"I'm excited about the future with Power Maxed Car Care Racing; winning the final race in 2019 has lit a fire underneath me, so I'm more than ready to get back out and win my 100th race!"

Plato's return comes in tandem with the team's return to a full-time entry, following a handful of single-car appearances with guest drivers in 2020. The team will return to a two-car line-up for this season too, with the second driver to be announced in due course.

The BTCC visits the Brands Hatch Indy and Grand Prix circuits, Donington Park, Oulton Park and Snetterton this year across a revised schedule. You can click here to view all dates.
