Chilton tops Snetterton's summer BTCC test ahead of August event

Wednesday, July 17 2019

Tom Chilton topped the overall combined times at the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship's summer test at Snetterton this week (Tuesday and Wednesday) ahead of the series' triple-header race event on 3/4 August.

The Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher driver topped Tuesday's sessions, with his effort of 1m56.144s behind the wheel of a Ford Focus RS enough to top the overall times at the close of today's running.

Dan Cammish was second fastest across the two days in his Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda Civic Type R, just head of Chilton's team-mate Ollie Jackson, who topped Wednesday morning's opening session.

Sam Tordoff and Adam Morgan completed a top-five which was separated by just four-tenths of a second following two full days of running on the three-mile 300 circuit.

Sixth fastest overall was Rob Austin, who is sitting out this season ahead of a mooted return to the grid in 2020, following a table topping performance in the Wednesday afternoon session in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

Reigning champion and championship leader Colin Turkington was seventh quickest in his BMW 3 Series, one position ahead of 2018 runner-up Tom Ingram in his Toyota Corolla.
