Haslam does the double with finish line collision

Sunday, June 17 2018

Championship leader Leon Haslam completed a Bennetts British Superbike Championship double in spectacular style at Snetterton today, colliding with Josh Brookes on the finish line in race two to snatch the win.

Haslam, who had never won a BSB race at the Norfolk circuit, said he'd always promised his dad he'd finish on top at Snetterton on Father's Day. "It's a tough weekend normally for me - my style, the bike, whatever - so to come away with a double win. I had a fantastic battle with both Jake (Dixon) and with Josh, and the run to the line was a little bit hairy but to come away with a win, I'm happy.

"Every year I say to my dad I'm going to win here for Father's Day and this year I've managed to do it for him so Happy Father's Day!" he said.

The day's two Bennetts BSB races were never short of drama, with Andrew Irwin, Michael Laverty and the Honda Racing pairing of Dan Linfoot and Jason O'Halloran crashing out on the first lap in race one and race leader Bradley Ray sliding out of contention on lap nine. Luke Mossey suffered a high-speed dismount at the end of the Bentley Straight.

Race two saw Ray and Glenn Irwin collide while vying for position in the leading pack, taking both riders out of the race. But it was the final couple of laps that set pulses racing as Haslam, Brookes and Dixon battled it out to the finish line. Haslam now leads the championship by 64 points from Ray.
