Cammish tops opening day of Snetterton BTCC test

Wednesday, July 11 2018

Halfords Yuasa Racing driver Dan Cammish powered his Honda Civic Type-R to the top of the times after the first day of Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship testing at Snetterton today (Wednesday).

The BTCC newcomer, who is searching for his first win after replacing Gordon Shedden at the team this year, set a best time of 1m56.581s in the afternoon session to go 0.219s quicker than Jack Goff's morning time in the WIX Racing with Eurotech Honda. Matt Neal made it a Honda 1-2-3 in third place, with his time also coming in the afternoon.

Tom Chilton, another driver looking to take his first win of the year when the series resumes at the circuit on 28-29 July, was fourth fastest in the Team Shredded Wheat Ford Focus, and 0.033s clear of BMW Pirtek Racing man Andrew Jordan in fifth.

Rob Austin's Alfa Romeo, James Cole's Ford Focus, Mike Bushell's VW, and Vauxhall's Josh Cook were next up, with BMW's Championship leader Colin Turkington completing the top-10, just ahead of his nearest title challenger Tom Ingram, who was 11th in his Toyota Avensis.

With the 'Diamond Double' event at Snetterton fast approaching, which will see the drivers compete in a special double length race, several drivers took the chance to do longer race simulations.

A separate tyre development session was held after the first day of testing had concluded, with selected drivers asked to do full 20-lap runs and qualifying simulations on tyres developed specifically for the Diamond Double.

Testing at Snetterton resumes tomorrow, with free public entry.
