Gamble and Thiim share British GT qualifying spoils at Snetterton

Saturday, May 18 2019

Supersub Tom Gamble and Danish superstar Nicki Thiim claimed the outright pole positions for Snetterton's two British GT Championship races tomorrow (Sunday) after topping the GT3 AM and GT3 PRO sessions respectively this afternoon.

Silver-rated Gamble was always likely to be a contender in the AM session after he was drafted in as a last-minute substitute following an injury to regular BMW M6 GT3 driver Adrian Wilmott.

Gamble outqualified Oulton Park race-winner Sam De Haan by just 0.076s to secure pole position for himself and Jack Mitchell in the first of tomorrow's races. Graham Davidson completed the top-three in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3 he shares with Jonny Adam.

In the GT3 PRO session, Nicki Thiim secured an even narrower pole position margin of 0.055s from Phil Keen Lamborghini Huracan in the Aston Martin he co-pilots with Mark Farmer.

Keen's second place ensures two top-four starts for himself and co-driver Adam Balon tomorrow, whilst there will be a double top-three start for team-mates De Haan and Jonny Cocker after the latter went third fastest.

In GT4, Scott Maxwell topped the opening AM qualifying period in the new-for-2019 Ford Mustang which he shares with Seb Priaulx, and which won the second race of the season at Oulton Park last time out.

Maxwell will start alongside Richard Williams who gave the Audi R8 LMS a front-row start for its championship debut this weekend, whilst Josh Price qualified third in class in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4.

GT4 PRO pole position went to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Scott Malvern, which outpaced the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 of Tom Canning by a tenth-of-a-second. Dean MacDonald completed the top-three in his McLaren 570S.
