British Touring Cars heading to Snetterton this weekend

Tuesday, July 30 2019

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) blasts back to life at Norfolk's Snetterton circuit, following its annual summer break with an action-packed triple-header starring some of the biggest names UK motor racing has to offer, including ex-F1 driver Mark Blundell, series legend Jason Plato, and Nic Hamilton, brother of five-time F1 World Champion Lewis.

There is East Anglian interest too, courtesy of Ipswich's four-time National Hot Rod World Champion Carl Boardley, who is contesting his first full season in the BTCC this year. The local driver will be aiming to please in front of his home crowd after equalling his best result of the season thus far with 15th in the most recent round of the championship.

Behind the wheel of his Volkswagen CC, Boardley has joined a stellar 30-car field which features star drivers including reigning champion Colin Turkington who is chasing a record-equalling fourth BTCC crown with BMW.

The Munich manufacturer has wowed the crowds with its new 3 Series this year, and can boast a one-two in the championship standings ahead of Snetterton's three races on Sunday 4 August. Turkington heads the standings from Andrew Jordan in the sister car.

Of the other big names we've mentioned, it's been a learning year for both Blundell and Hamilton, neither of whom has previously contested a full season in national level tin-top racing. Plato, meanwhile, is returning to his best form in his Vauxhall Astra and can't be discounted from adding to his 96-race win tally in the BTCC.

It's set to be a non-stop day out at the venue near Thetford, with three BTCC races including a reverse-grid finale on the challenging 300 circuit. There will also be support races including the Renault UK Clio Cup, F4 British Championship, the Ginetta Junior Championship and the Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

For anybody looking to make a weekend of it, there will be a handful of support races on the Saturday afternoon too in addition to the BTCC practice and qualifying sessions.

The BTCC is as fast and furious as ever, so act quickly to secure your discounted advance tickets from just £28 with FREE entry for under-13s. For more information,  click here or call 0843 453 9000.
