Racing legend Mark Blundell joins BTCC for 2019

Wednesday, February 13 2019

Former Formula 1 driver Mark Blundell will make his return to mainstream motor racing in 2019, as he joins the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) behind the wheel of a Trade Price Cars Racing Audi S3.

This year's BTCC assault herald's the Le Mans 24 Hours winner's return to the professional driving seat after a six-year absence. Blundell's appearance in the BTCC also marks his first full campaign in touring car racing.

This announcement ensures that the well-known racer's racing career will move into its 32nd year, following stints in Grand Prix racing with McLaren, Brabham, Tyrrell, and Ligier, as well as race wins in American IndyCar racing.

Blundell will make first appearance in an official BTCC session during the championship's official pre-season launch test on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on 27 March, before the season kicks off on the same layout on 6-7 April.

Fans can then see Blundell in action at Donington Park on 27-28 April, Oulton Park on 29-30 June, Snetterton on 3-4 August, and then again at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit season finale on 12-13 October.

In addition to racing in the BTCC full-time, Blundell will continue in his ongoing role as the CEO of MB Partners, his driver management business, a challenge he is looking forward to.

Blundell said: "Once the opportunity arose to get back behind the wheel, it was always something I was very keen to make happen. The British Touring Car Championship is a fantastic series that I have
always wanted to race in but it has never been possible until now.

"I have been lucky enough to have had a fantastic motor racing career to date and to have been a part of British motorsport for many years. The sport is in a fantastic place across the UK at this current time and the BTCC and the overall TOCA package is a major part of that, providing an excellent platform for top-level professional drivers and many bright talents behind the wheel. The strength of the series is shown by the thousands of fans that join trackside up and down the country.

"It is going to be a new challenge for me but one I am really excited by and I'm
delighted that the time is right to finally make this step. At my age, I want to make sure that I am taking on such a prestigious championship while I am still geared up to do so competitively."
