Snetterton season gets underway with stage rally

Thursday, February 15 2018

Snetterton's season gets underway with a packed entry competing for honours in the Snetterton Stage Rally on Sunday 18 February.

The entry has attracted an evocative selection of cars, from the hugely popular MkI and II Ford Escorts which make up a large proportion of the runners, to other rally favourites such as the Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Evos that British rallying heroes Colin McRae and Richard Burns made famous in the 1990s. In addition there is a truly eclectic array of hatchbacks and saloons from the last 50 years.

The crews will also be competing for the MSVR-run Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship. Now in its third season, the championship has established itself as hugely competitive one, with a wealth of drivers across several classes. This Sunday's round follows events at Oulton Park, Cadwell Park, Knockhill and Brands Hatch, and the title is set to be decided later in the spring with a return visit to the Lincolnshire venue.

The championship is currently headed by the Peugeot 306 Maxi of Chris West, who has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season so far. West leads the points from Brands Hatch winner Andy Baker, and there is a similar picture atop the co-driver standings, with West's left-hand-man Keith Hounslow topping the table. The Snetterton stages will incorporate sections of the 300 circuit, venue access roads, pits and paddock. There are eight stages in total, and the first car will take to the opening stage of the day at approximately 9am, with running expected to continue pretty much non-stop until late afternoon, when the stages will be lit with blazing headlights and flaming exhausts. Between stages, the cars will return to the service area in the paddock for adjustments and, in some cases, serious maintenance. The area will be open to the public - click here to download a map of viewing areas.

Tickets for the Snetterton Stage Rally on Sunday 18 February are available on the gate for £16, or £10 to 13-15 year-olds, with free entry to under-13s. For more information or to book, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
