F1 track demo thrills crowd at Ford Power Live

Sunday, October 22 2017

Snetterton's newest event - Ford Power Live - will be back next year after delivering a fantastic celebration today (Sunday 22 October) of the famous blue oval marque both on and off the track.

For most, the highlight of the day was the ear-splitting Formula 1 demo which saw a rare outing from the Ford Cosworth DFV-powered McLaren M23 (pictured) as driven by James Hunt and Emmerson Fittipaldi, and arguably the most successful F1 car ever built.

The car was joined on the 200 circuit at lunchtime by a 1974 Lotus 76, a 1983 Osella FA1D, a replica F3000 Renault F1 and a 1990 Lola F3000 Mugen-Honda. Sadly, the Lotus - bearing the iconic black and gold JPS livery - had to retire early due to a mechanic problem but not before it wowed the crowds on a few laps of the circuit.

The event featured car displays including celebrations of some of Ford's best-loved models such as the Puma, Escort RS Cosworth and Focus ST170. Every car on display was entered into a 'Show & Shine' contest and an overall best in show trophy was awarded to Belinda Wheelwright for her Southern GT40 mk1 replica.

Richard Marcroft, MotorSport Vision's Automotive Festival Events Manager, said: "The event has great potential and will definitely be back in 2018. We had some incredible cars both on and off the track and the Ford clubs created fantastic displays, especially with the anniversary models.

"The F1, MASCAR and American muscle car track demos were a real highlight. The day was packed with Ford content and next year's event will be even bigger and better!"

Keep an eye on the Snetterton website and Ford Power Live Facebook page for next year's date to be announced.
