Shakey stays top as Dixon closes in ahead of Datatag Qualifying

Saturday, July 01 2017

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne maintained his advantage at the top of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship times ahead of this afternoon's Datatag Qualifying session, holding off Knockhill double race winner Jake Dixon by 0.265s at Snetterton.

Early in the session Luke Mossey led the way for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team, but the defending champion was on the attack and soon fired in the fastest lap of the session before improving his time to remain fastest.

Dixon had left his best run of the session until the final ten minutes as he launched the RAF Reserves Kawasaki into second place, pushing championship leader Mossey into third. Josh Brookes' Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha team overcame some initial technical problems to move into fourth place at the chequered flag, with Peter Hickman completing the top five for Smiths Racing BMW.

Jakub Smrz was also a rider to run at the top of the times earlier in the session, he finished sixth onboard the Lloyd & Jones PR Racing BMW with John Hopkins remaining ahead of the Honda Racing pairing.

O'Halloran had the marginal advantage over Linfoot with Tommy Bridewell completing the top ten for Team WD-40 Kawasaki with Leon Haslam eleventh.
