Jack Goff quickest in opening BTCC test day at Snetterton

Wednesday, July 05 2017

Jack Goff topped the first of two Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship test days at Snetterton today (Wednesday), as the drivers gear up for the second half of the season, which gets underway at the Norfolk circuit later this month (29/30 July).

Eurotech Honda driver Goff's best time of 1:57.408s pipped Team HARD's Jake Hill (VW) by just hundredth of a second, with Ollie Jackson's Audi third for AmDtuning.com. Mercedes pairing Aiden Moffat and Adam Morgan were next, followed by early-season title leader Tom Ingram (Speedworks Toyota) and Motorbase's Mat Jackson (Ford).

The test provided the perfect opportunity for drivers to get their cars set up for the Snetterton rounds at the end of the month, as well as a much-needed session during the long summer break. Almost of all of the grid was present at the test, and for some of the teams it was also a chance to help improve their cars after a busy first half of 2017.

Hill's Team HARD squad was one of the teams that benefitted from the test, with the Kent-based youngster working with new engineers for the first time this week.

"This is the first proper test I've had in this car," Jake said. "From an engineering point of view we struggled and now we've got two guys with us from an extremely good engineering background and what they've done with me already has been exceptional, so I'm very hopeful that we can bring to the rest of the season is going to be strong.

"[Snetterton is] a really nice testing circuit, it's a great place to be, perfect weather, everyone's getting a lot of running in and we're all learning."

At the test but not in action was Aron Smith, who is recovering from his Croft qualifying accident, which left him with a fractured leg. Aron was happy to report excellent progress on his condition: "My leg has been a bit annoying because I have not been able to move around very much, and from my concussion I just had a few migraines, but we've got great medical care," he said. "I'm here now with no crutches so it's going in the right direction."

"I would have loved to have been out today, but I've listened to the team radio to hear what they're trying on the car and [team-mate] Josh [Cook] is so fast that it really helps to learn the progression of the team."
