Snetterton season kicks off with rally action

Wednesday, February 15 2017

Snetterton's season gets underway this Sunday (19 February) with the exciting sport of stage rallying, bringing power slides, Scandinavian flicks and more winter-warming thrills to Norfolk.

The rally forms the fifth round of the Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, which visits circuits across the country from autumn to spring, transforming them into rally stages for the day. The Snetterton round will combine sections of the circuit in both directions, plus pits, paddock, and access roads, offering a unique challenge to the drivers. Click here to download the stage maps.

Unlike forest rallies, visitors to Snetterton can enjoy superb views of the rally throughout the day, with the venue's panoramic spectator banks overlooking almost all of the action. Spectators can also watch the cars being prepared between stages.

The championship format means that a capacity entry of 90 cars will take to the rally's eight stages. An eclectic range of cars includes humble hatchbacks converted for competition use, as well as popular classics such as the Ford Escort and Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. There are modern-day World Rally Specials too, such as the Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Evo, cars that have powered Britain's rallying heroes Colin McRae and Richard Burns to success. The event will run from 9am and finish after dark, with the last car released onto the final stage at approximately 5:30pm, by which time the track will be lit by blazing headlights, glowing brake discs and flaming exhausts.

Tickets to the Snetterton Stage Rally on Sunday 19 February are available for £16 on the gate, or £10 to 13-15 year-olds, with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
