Snetterton set to be transformed into street circuit

Saturday, April 01 2017

Snetterton is set for further upgrade work in the coming years, with plans unveiled to build a new city, dubbed 'Palmerville' around the 300 circuit. Pending planning permission, these new developments will see the Norfolk circuit totally remodelled into a Monaco-esque street circuit.

Key changes will include the creation of a lake and marina in the centre of the circuit's infield, and an all-new high-rise control tower which is set to rival The Shard for the title of 'tallest building in the United Kingdom'. Other exciting additions to the city of Palmerville will include boutique shops, chic apartments, and a hotel with a rooftop swimming pool overlooking the Bomb Hole.

Many of the new high rise structures will include panoramic viewing platforms, improving the already sensational views afforded by the venue's current spectator banks. It's also anticipated that Tyrrells will be relocated to a revolving location atop a Seattle Space Needle-inspired structure, making it Norfolk's foremost dining destination.

Another development will be the construction of a special town square around Snetterton's only grade I landmark - the Scary Tree. It's hoped that this will provide a real boost to the tourism trade in Norfolk, with visitors expected to flock from across the globe to pay homage to the venue's most famous resident, much as they would the Pope in St Peter's Square.

The circuit layout itself will remain unchanged, albeit with reduced run off, though it's expected that competitors will have to negotiate a Monaco-style tunnel on the Bentley straight, once hotel construction has been completed.

Looking ahead to the future, Palmerville has been already been discussed as a potential European Capital of Culture for 2023, and a bid for the Summer Olympic games is expected before 2030.

Snetterton's Avril le Poisson commented: "This major news marks the realisation of a dream for us all at the circuit. For many years we've believed that Snetterton deserved a spot on the international map alongside New York, Rome, and Paris, and the construction of Palmerville will go a long way to achieving that."
