Blockbuster BTCC entry list released

Thursday, March 16 2017

A capacity grid of 32 cars will contest the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season, which gets underway at Brands Hatch on 1/2 April.

The field includes five champions, including Honda's Gordon Shedden, who will be defending his title and aiming for a record-equalling fourth crown against former champions Matt Neal (Honda), Jason Plato (Subaru), Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan (both BMW).

There are a further 11 race-winners on the grid and amongst these is Tom Chilton, who returns to the BTCC with Vauxhall, also back after a seven-year hiatus. Mat Jackson heads the Motorbase (Ford) charge, and also expected to challenge for the title are Tom Ingram (Speedworks Toyota), Adam Morgan (Ciceley Motorsport), Rob Collard (BMW) and Aron Taylor-Smith (MG).

Other former race-winners include Jack Goff (Eurotech Honda), Rob Austin (Handy Motorsport Toyota), Dave Newsham (BTC Norlin Racing Chevrolet) and Ashley Sutton (Subaru). The list also features Stephen Jelley, who last raced in the BTCC in 2009 with WSR. He'll be driving the Team Parker Ford Focus.

The strongest BTCC field in years also contains many rising stars, including the return of Daniel Lloyd, who impressed in two appearances with Eurotech last year, earning him a works drive with MG. Jake Hill hopes to improve on some strong results with Team HARD, switching from the Toyota Avensis to an ex-BMR VW CC. Meanwhile Josh Cook has secured a last-minute return to the grid in the Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus.

There's also a strong rookie contingent headed up by reigning Renault UK Clio Cup Champion Ant Whorton-Eales, who'll race an AmD Audi. Fellow Clio racers Senna Proctor (Vauxhall) and Josh Price (Subaru) also join the grid, whilst Ginetta GT4 Supercup title challenger Will Burns joins Team HARD to race a VW. Completing the list is former British GT Championship racer Luke Davenport, with Motorbase (Ford).

The 2017 championship gets underway at Brands Hatch on 1/2 April, with three races on the Sunday, and there's a packed support bill that includes the Renault UK Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta GT4 Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and British F4.
