Tom Ingram heads opening day of BTCC testing at Snetterton

Wednesday, June 29 2016

Tom Ingram was fastest on the opening day of the official Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship test at Snetterton today (Wednesday), having set his best lap during the dry morning session.

The Speedworks driver has taken two pole positions and his maiden race victory so far this year, and will be looking to take another win in Norfolk next month when the second half of the season gets underway on 30/31 July.

Andrew Jordan was second fastest, albeit almost half a second behind. Impressive rookie Daniel Lloyd was third, with team-mate Jeff Smith fourth and Handy Motorsport's Rob Austin completing the top five. Just behind, Ollie Jackson recorded an impressive time, whilst both MGs ran in a top ten almost exclusively filled with front-wheel-drive cars.

Ingram also headed the afternoon session, which was affected by rain, meaning that he was almost 20 seconds slower than the morning. However many teams took the opportunity to get wet weather data, and Team HARD's Michael Epps was a surprise second, a quarter of a second behind. Adam Morgan, Aron Smith and reigning champion Gordon Shedden completed the top five.

Many teams are testing development tyres, so the times are not necessarily a reliable guide to form for the July round. Some of the teams will also be trialling rookie drivers tomorrow.

"Snetterton's good for all sorts of testing that we do," Ingram said. "There's are different variants of corners here; you've got low speed and high speed corners, hairpins, so it's difficult to get a car set up perfectly round here because it's such a diverse place. I always enjoy driving Snetterton, it's had a big improvement since the extension, so it should be a good one for us."

BTCC testing continues tomorrow (Thursday), with dry conditions expected.
