Laverty launches to the top to end day one fastest at Snetterton

Wednesday, June 15 2016

Tyco BMW's Michael Laverty saved his best until last in the final minutes of the opening day of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship test at Snetterton, by storming ahead of local contender Luke Mossey to hold the advantage by 0.354s.

James Ellison had led the session initially for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team ahead of Laverty but Luke Mossey was closing in and he grabbed the advantage with just over ten minutes remaining.

Christian Iddon and Leon Haslam both tipped off in separate crashes at Agostini, with both riders able to remount and return to the pitlane.

The battle for the top position then went down to the final minutes but Laverty just had the edge to hold off Mossey at the chequered flag with Jason O'Halloran leaping to third for Honda Racing ahead of Ellison.

Iddon held fifth position ahead of Tommy Bridewell on the Bennetts Suzuki and Peter Hickman on the third JG Speedfit Kawasaki. John Hopkins and the ePayMe Yamaha team reported positive improvements during their single day on track with Danny Buchan and Lee Jackson completing the top ten.
