Oliver levels the scores with Truck race three victory

Sunday, September 20 2015

Stuart Oliver took the first of today's (Sunday) wins in the British Truck Racing Championship at Snetterton, and with title rival Mat Summerfield suffering a mid-race spin, has levelled the scores at the top of the standings.

The race got underway with Trevor Martin leading the field from Luke Garrett, with Brian Burt and Adam Bint's bonneted trucks following, however Steven Powell was quickly working his way forward from the rear, after having effected repairs to his borrowed truck overnight. A few corners behind in Division One, Shane Brereton headed Ryan Smith, as Stuart Oliver closed in on the pair during the opening lap.

Oliver barged his way to second in class and team-mate Brereton offered just a modicum of generosity to let him pass on the outside of Richeson the following lap to head the category, whilst managing to hold back Smith. Behind them, Mat Summerfield made a mistake at Murray's, letting yesterday's winner, David Jenkins past.

At the front, Powell was gradually closing on Garrett for the overall lead as Oliver and now Smith picked their way past the slower Division Two machines. Meanwhile Jenkins was struggling to clear Brereton's truck, with Summerfield sat on his tail, ready to pounce. However, the reigning champion spun at Agostini, dropping to the rear of the field, and with only a couple of laps remaining, looked set to lose a handful of valuable points.

Oliver took the lead from Powell on the penultimate lap as Jenkins finally passed Brereton and looked odds-on for an overall podium position. As for further progress, Smith was just a little too far ahead and finished a few seconds adrift of winner Oliver, who took the joint lead of the championship, after  Summerfield gained just one place from Simon Reid at the finish line. However, Summerfield will start the next race from the front of the Division One grid, the perfect place from which to gain his revenge.

In fifth overall, Powell took the Divison Two win, making up for his problems in yesterday's second race, with Luke Garrett just one place and less than a second behind, and erstwhile leader Martin completing the category podium.

The second British Truck Racing Championship race of the day will take place at 1:20pm, following a free-of-charge VIP-style grid walk and autograph session, open to all spectators from 12:25pm.
