Oliver claims a second win in final Snetterton truck race

Sunday, September 20 2015

Stuart Oliver took his second race win of the weekend in the final British Truck Racing Championship round of the weekend at Snetterton today (Sunday), closing to within three points of championship leader Mat Summerfield in the process.

At the rolling start, Brian Burt led the field into the first corner, but Adam Bint was soon into the lead, with Luke Garrett and Steven Powell following close behind. In Division One, Oliver soon overtook Shane Brereton for the lead as Ray Coleman attacked ahead of Steve Thomas, whilst Richard Collett held off Ryan Smith and a delayed Mat Summerfield, who made an error at Williams corner on lap one.

Missing from the field was David Jenkins, whose incident with Oliver in race four was judged to be his fault and he was excluded from the meeting as a result of this, handing the race two victory to Simon Reid.

Back in the race, one of the trucks appeared to be dropping fluid as several runners were struggling to stay on the tarmac. Sure enough, Powell pulled into the pits after a few laps. He continued after a quick check, but left a trail of liquid on his exit.

This left Garrett and Bint in the lead, with Oliver nearly 50 seconds in arrears. However, the Division One trucks began to pick up the pace much quicker than the two leaders and 20 seconds were gained in just a single lap.

With two laps remaining, Oliver had gained another ten seconds on the leaders. His pace was such that he took the lead heading into the final lap, carrying Smith and Thomas with him.

With the top four settled, Collett took fifth place ahead of Summerfield, who saw his title lead halved to three points over the course of the weekend. Bint claimed second in class in seventh place, heading Brereton, Reid and Coleman.
