Heroes Scott Brown and Lister to be celebrated at Snetterton

Thursday, June 04 2015

Snetterton's rich motor racing history will be celebrated this weekend (13/14 June) with two headline races celebrating the Norfolk circuit and East Anglia's contribution to the sport.

The June historic racing fixture was originally established to recall the classic Snetterton endurance races of the past and this tradition carries on with the Autosport 3 Hours for classic GTs and sports racers, which headlines events on the Saturday. A bumper entry is set to include many greats from the 1950s and 60s, including Jaguar E-Types, Lotus Elans, MGBs, TVRs and Austin Healeys in a Le Mans-style race with pitstops for driver changes.

New for 2015 will be the Archie Scott Brown Trophy, celebrating the legendary driver from the 1950s who overcame disability to record many sportscar triumphs for Cambridge's Lister marque. The race, for 1950s Lister cars and rival sports racers, will also pay tribute to Brian Lister, who built the cars that Archie drove. Brian died late last year and there will be a Lister parade at lunch time on the Sunday, plus a display of cars from the modern Lister company.

Events on the Sunday will also celebrate respected racing weekly Motorsport News's 60th Anniversary, and will recall classic racing categories, including the Norman Greenway Trophy Historic Formula Ford race for single seaters, which is named after Snetterton's legendary commentator. Also featured will be Classic Clubmans for front-engined sportscars, and a combined Historic and 70s Road Sports race. The entry list for this includes cars from the local Lotus marque, plus MG and Triumph from the UK, versus foreign manufacturers Alfa Romeo, Porsche and Lancia.

Other historic categories racing at the event includes the ever-popular Historic Touring Cars, recalling the British and European Touring Car races at Snetterton in the 60s, with US Ford Mustang muscle cars battling British Lotus Cortinas, Minis Coopers and Hillman Imps. There are further races for 50s and 60s sports cars in the Fiscar and Guards Trophy events, whilst a variety of single-seaters will compete in the Classic Racing Cars class.

Tickets for the Autosport 3 Hours and Archie Scott Brown Trophy at Snetterton on 13/14 June are available from £10 with free entry for under 13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
