Grand Prix legend Agostini to make Snetterton appearance at MCE British Superbike event

Thursday, June 04 2015

Italian Grand Prix legend Giacomo Agostini will return to Snetterton circuit this month (19/20/21 June) during the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship event when the illustrious 15-times World Champion will support MV Agusta's British Championship campaign and attend an official ceremony to formally inaugurate the corner named in his honour.

'Ago' returns to the Norfolk circuit where he has recorded success during his career including winning the 1972 Snetterton 'Race of Aces', the circuits flagship motorcycle event, and where he scored his first and a rare four wheel podium in the 1979 Aurora AFX British Formula 1 Championship, at the wheel of a Marlboro-sponsored Williams FW06.

Agostini is widely regarded as one of the greatest motorcycle racers in history and during his distinguished career he became a 15-time World Champion including eight times in the premier 500cc Grand Prix class, a feat unrivalled to date.

Agostini will also make his return to the track, completing his first laps of the Snetterton 300 circuit following its transformation following an extensive redevelopment in 2011, taking part in a unique ride around with MV Agusta owners on the Saturday of the event.  Agostini's relationship with the evocative Italian marque spanned a 17-year era and together they celebrated 14 World titles, ten TT victories and more than 250 race wins.

Mark Franklin, Director of MV Agusta UK, commented: "We are delighted and honoured that Giacomo has made time to join us for the Snetterton round of MCE BSB as the guest of the Tsingtao Hampshire MV Agusta team and to officially name his corner on the circuit.

"In particular this event gives anyone with an MV Agusta the once in a lifetime chance to ride with a legend on the circuit and create a piece of history for MV Agusta and for MV Agusta owners in the UK - I would encourage all MV Agusta owners to contact us at ridewithago@mvagusta.com to ensure they don't miss out on this opportunity."

The Italian maestro's visit to Snetterton will be the first of two appearances at MSV circuits this year as he will return to headline the highly anticipated Cadwell Park International Classic on 25/26 July.
