Beechdean heads opening British GT practice at Snetterton

Saturday, August 22 2015

Avon Tyres British GT Championship challengers Beechdean headed the opening practice session for this weekend's rounds at Snetterton today (Saturday), where the top eight was covered by little more than a second.

Beechdean headed the session from early on, as Jonny Adam got an important weekend for the team, which needs to overcome a 34-point deficit to the reigning champion Ecurie Ecosse squad, underway. With Joe Osborne, Rory Butcher and championship leader Alexander Sims over half a second behind in fifth, sixth and seventh respectively at this stage, the 2013 champions were off to a good start.

Between the title contenders, Phil Keen was just three hundredths off the Beechdean car in the Team Russia BMW Z4, heading the TF Sport Aston Martin and FF Corse Ferrari. The Triple Eight and Ecurie Ecosse teams improved their times as the session wore on, getting to within a couple of tenths of the leading Aston Martin.

In GT4, ISSY Racing were making up for a tough Brands Hatch round at their home circuit, 1.3 seconds ahead of the Beechdean junior car. The teams were separated by recent winners Tolman Motorsport and James Nash in the Stratton Motorsport Lotus Evora, and were soon joined by the Optimum Ginetta at the head of the class order.

Times were unlikely to change much in the final 20 minutes reserved for the amateur, Bronze-rated drivers. Jon Minshaw caused a red flag by going straight on at Agostini and striking the barrier, and after the session was restarted, very few gains were found.
