Levett doubles up, Smith completes Snetterton sweep

Sunday, September 14 2014

Christopher Levett added a second victory of the day in the final British Truck Racing Championship race of the weekend at Snetterton today (Sunday), with title rival Mat Summerfield only third in class, whilst Ryan Smith moved to within a point of Simon Reid in the Division Two championship standings after completing a clean sweep of the category.

This time it wasn't a straightforward class victory for Smith as local hero Jim Bennett led the race at Riches, but Division Two title leader Simon Reid was ahead by the time the field had exited Montreal corner for the first time, with Smith back in third place.

David Jenkins headed the Division One class as their race commenced, but by the time they reached Agostini, Levett was attacking, with Steve Thomas just behind. Both had passed Jenkins by Oggies, with Stuart Oliver, Richard Collett, Matt Summerfield and Ray Coleman lying in wait.

On the second lap Smith fought to pass Bennett, which he successfully achieved, but Reid had made good his escape. Nevertheless it took just one tour of the circuit for Smith to close on his rival and he was soon past. Unable to respond, Reid awaited to arrival of the Division One machines in his mirrors.

Levett passed Reid on lap four and quickly took the race lead. Following further behind was Thomas, all on his own whilst Jenkins held Summerfield, who had overtaken Collett and Oliver. After a lap sitting in his rival's slipstream, Summerfield grabbed the place at Montreal and Oliver also barged through. But Jenkins fought back and the pair both lost time at Agostini, letting Coleman get between the pair.

Meanwhile Levett took the flag ahead of Thomas, who demoted Smith late on, with Summerfield well clear of Oliver. Jenkins and Coleman both passed Reid, who finished in eighth place ahead of Powell and Bennett.
