Gaetano di Mauro storms to pole at sodden Snetterton

Sunday, November 09 2014

PetroBall Racing's Gaetano di Mauro claimed his second pole position of the weekend in Sunday qualifying.

In very wet conditions, di Mauro brought his time down to a 2m12.530s, with current championship leader Will Palmer his main challenger, finishing second, 0.642s off the Brazilian.

Rodrigo Fonseca, who claimed his first F4 podium yesterday was third quickest, with debutant Zubair Hoque fourth ahead of his HHC team mate Harri Newey.

Jordan Albert was sixth quickest despite having a lap time disallowed for exceeding track limits, with Mectech Motorsport's Connor Jupp seventh.

Enzo Bortoleto and Fernando Urrutia completed the order, with the pair separated by 0.3s.

Di Mauro improved his time on almost every lap, with his final effort proving the quickest overall. He commented: "I'm very happy. We had a good set up for the conditions and we were very quick. If the race is wet then I think I should be able to win. My times in the session got better and better and I'm confident ahead of the race. It's going to be a good battle with Will Palmer, he will be very quick but I'll be pushing to move forward."

Today's first race starts at 11.10.
