Di Mauro pips Palmer to F4 Winter Championship pole on last lap

Saturday, November 08 2014

PetroBall's Gaetano di Mauro claimed pole position in the opening Winter Championship qualifying session at Snetterton, edging Will Palmer to top spot by 0.4s.

Di Mauro and Palmer, both race winners in the main championship, were the standout performers in the session, with di Mauro holding top spot for the majority of the 20 minute period.

A last effort from Palmer looked to have secured pole, but with track conditions improving rapidly as the session went on, di Mauro was the last driver to cross the line and claimed top spot.

Connor Jupp was third for single seater newcomers Mectech Motorsport, with main season regular Jordan Albert fourth for SWR - Caterham F1.

Rodrigo Fonseca will line up fifth for Douglas Motorsport ahead of HHC Motorsport's Harri Newey. Enzo Bortoleto was seventh ahead of Fernando Urrutia and Zubair Hoque.

The session started with all cars bar Jupp on wet tyres. However with the conditions rapidly improving, they all returned to the pits within a handful of laps to move onto slick Yokohama tyres.

Race one starts at 11.10.
