Kiyonari and Westmoreland back on track for testing

Wednesday, May 14 2014

There may be a break in the calendar until the next MCE BSB round at Snetterton (13/14/15 June), but there was no rest for Buildbase BMW's Ryuichi Kiyonari and James Westmoreland who tested at Knockhill last week.

Westmoreland had his best result of the season at Oulton Park with a sixth place whilst Kiyonari was forced to retire with a technical problem in both races. However the pair are now confident that with the additional track time they will be ready to come out fighting at Snetterton as they aim for BMW's first MCE BSB podium finish.

Kiyonari said: "It was a good test and I am very happy. There have been some small changes to the track at the Hairpin since we raced there last year; but it was about me getting some more data so that we can make more improvements before Snetterton. At races it isn't so easy to do that but today we worked on some different settings so it was good and I am feeling faster with more time on the BMW. The weekend at Oulton Park was disappointing because we had the pace, but we had problems that meant we didn't finish the races. We were just unlucky but we will try again at Snetterton!"

Westmoreland said: "It was a good day on track and straight away my confidence felt really high and we have only made small changes but I left Knockhill feeling the best I have so far this year. The bike set up is very different compared to last year so it has taken me these rounds to adapt to that and build the confidence. Oulton Park has traditionally not been a great track for me but this year we made real progress. I did have a crash, but I am at the point where I need to push to find the limit and we did that. I am really happy with how today went though and we are looking forward to getting back on track again soon."
