Packed grid set to contest Snetterton British GT races

Thursday, June 19 2014

A packed grid of 32 Supercars will take to the Snetterton 300 circuit this weekend (21/22 June), when the Avon Tyres British GT Championship makes its annual visit to the Norfolk venue.

The list includes several new drivers, following confirmation earlier in the week that Sir Chris Hoy will be joined by Nissan ZEOD driver Wolfgang Reip. Another entrant with Le Mans experience will be Jonathan Cocker, who will join Marco Attard in the championship-leading Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4. Cocker previously raced for parent team Barwell Motorsport in British GT with Lord Drayson.

Meanwhile, Rockingham winners FF Corse are joined by former A1GP Champion and GP2 race winner Adam Carroll this weekend. The Irishman will join Gary Eastwood in the squad's Ferrari 458 Italia as they chase further success.

Also joining the championship at Snetterton will be former British Touring Car Championship driver Jeff Smith. He will race alongside Rory Butcher in the Oman Racing Team entry, and joins a long list of BTCC alumni, including Michael Caine, Warren Hughes, Jonny Adam, Steven Kane, Luke Hines and Tom Onslow-Cole.

The drivers will take part in two one-hour races, which also feature pitstops on Sunday, whilst there will be two practice and qualifying sessions on Saturday. The event also includes the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship, BRDC Formula 4 Championship, Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Volkswagen Racing Cup and Power Maxed Mini Challenge.
