Byrne back on top as Smrz steals second from Andrews

Tuesday, April 08 2014

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne was back at the top of the times in the second MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship session at Snetterton as Jakub Smrz and Millsport Ducati climbed the order to second ahead of RAF Reserves Honda's Simon Andrews.

Byrne saved his best until last in the session with his fastest lap coming towards the end, however Czech Smrz was upping the pace on the Panigale to move ahead of Andrews who had set the initial pace earlier in the session.

Chris Walker was the fastest of the Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasakis in fourth place as he maintained his position ahead of John Hopkins on the leading Tyco Suzuki in fifth on his return to the Norfolk circuit.

Dan Linfoot and the Quattro Plant Kawasaki team held sixth place on the timesheets, narrowly pushing ahead of Richard Cooper on the Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki and James Westmoreland who was the fastest of the Buildbase BMWs. His team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari had stopped with a technical problem earlier in the session. Bathams BMW's Michael Rutter and Josh Waters on the Tyco Suzuki completed the top ten.
