Large grids expected for revamped Autosport 3 Hours in 2014

Thursday, November 28 2013

Next year's AUTOSPORT 3 Hour race at Snetterton (7-8 June) is expected to benefit from increased grid sizes with as many as 50 cars potentially competing, half a century on from the last contemporary 3 hour race at the circuit.

Since 2007 the revived event has welcomed entries from the Historic Sports Car Club's Guards Trophy for pre-1969 sports and GT cars, with Chevron machinery prevailing on each occasion to date. From next year the rules will be changed to pre-1966 regulations which will render the Chevrons ineligble to compete. The Chevrons will likely be switched to another race for higher capcity sportscars whilst entries to the 3 hour will be opened to racers from the GT and Sports Car Cup series.

This new formula for pre-1966 machines promises to increase the competitiveness of the event through both the levelling of the playing field as well as the influx of new challengers from the GTSCC.

Speaking ahead of this new union HSCC director Graham White commented, "They have some nice cars so it could be something a bit different, the idea is that between us we can encourage more interest, if it works and we get support it would become a long-term thing".

Tickets for the HSCC AUTOSPORT 3 Hours at Snetterton on 7-8 June will be available online in due course.
