Supercars to provide the perfect Father’s Day out at Snetterton

Thursday, June 06 2013

The world's greatest supercars head to Snetterton next weekend (15/16 June) for the latest round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship on the extended 300 circuit. The series will also be joined by the brand new BRDC Formula 4 Championship for aspiring F1 stars and the combination will provide a great Fathers' Day out on the Sunday!

Thundering along the Norfolk circuit's Senna and Bentley Straights will be the awe-inspiring sight of a huge grid of 35 GT cars. The championship is enjoying its strongest season in many years, with teams representing Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes, Audi, BMW and more contesting the two races on Sunday.

The 300 circuit also provides the ultimate test for these amazing machines, with a wide variety of corners that promote close racing and challenge handling capabilities, all overlooked by panoramic spectator banks. New grandstands at the venue's popular Bombhole and Murray's corners will further enhance the viewing options available for fans.

A tight championship table is led by the Ecurie Ecosse BMW team after the last round at Silverstone. However the three previous races have been won by three different Porsche crews. Meanwhile the United Autosports team's McLarens, one of which took the chequered flag at Snetterton last year, enter the weekend as one of the favourites for honours, with a strong driver line-up that includes former Grand Prix star Mark Blundell.

Formula 4Blundell will be reunited with former F1 team mate Martin Brundle at the event as both will be presenting the trophies to the winning F4 drivers. The new championship's third round will take place at the circuit, with three races across the weekend, and the opening two events at Silverstone and Brands Hatch have featured breathtaking action from packed grids.

F4 has already asserted itself as the dominant first-step single seater series for young drivers, and a capacity grid of 24 cars is expected for the three races. Jake Dalton currently leads the way in the standings with two race victories to his name, and has yet to finish outside the top five in any of the six races so far. Meanwhile Charlie Robertson, last year's Ginetta Junior champion, lies second after success at Brands Hatch, with double race winner and privateer entry Matt Bell in third.

Fans can expect to see new additions to the four different race winners so far on the Snetterton 300 circuit, with the rapid Jake Hughes and hotly-tipped Seb Morris leading the challenge.

The event will also feature support races from the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, VW Racing Cup, Mk2 Golf GTi Championship and V.A.G. Trophy. Fans will also be able to get close-up to the supercars with a free pitwalk and autograph session during Sunday lunchtime.

Tickets for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton are available from £18 with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
