Tight BTCC title battle set to resume with Snetterton scorcher

Monday, July 22 2013

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title race is finely poised as the drivers return from their summer break at Snetterton 300 next month (3/4 August). Honda's Matt Neal leads the title race at the halfway point of the season, with four champions lining up behind him.

Reigning Independent champion Andrew Jordan is challenging for his first overall title in the Pirtek team's Civic, and is just 19 points behind Matt. With 20 points awarded to the winner of each race, Andrew will be aiming to repeat his 2012 victory at the Norfolk circuit.

Matt's team mate Gordon Shedden, the reigning BTCC champion, ties for third place with MG's Jason Plato and the double champion was fastest at a group test at Snetterton recently. The works Hondas of Neal and Shedden were absent, but they will be taking part in a test at the track this Wednesday.

Meanwhile two successful weekends at Oulton Park and Croft have placed returning champion Colin Turkington within four points of both Shedden and Plato. His rivals agree that the northern Irishman, driving the brand new eBay Motors BMW 1-Series, will be a major threat in the second half of the season.

The field also contains up to ten potential race winners and in addition to three races on the Sunday, there will also be support from the Renault Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and Formula Ford. Spectator facilities for 2013 are better than ever with new grandstands at Bomb Hole and Murrays adding to the panoramic viewing banks. There will also be big TV screens showing all of the action, plus a free pitwalk and autograph session on the Sunday and a new free children's adventure playground.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton 300 on 3/4 August are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
