BTCC's Mat Jackson: "Snetterton provides good racing"

Friday, July 26 2013

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race winner Mat Jackson is ready to turn around his 2013 season at Snetterton next weekend (3/4 August). The series regular was expected to mount a series title challenge this year but so far his Airwaves Ford Focus has not had the pace.

"Clearly the season hasn't got off to the plan we started," Mat admitted. "We've been struggling for pace and we've been caught up in a lot of incidents that we shouldn't be in, which is the knock-on effect. We need to come back for the second half and turn things around."

A recent test at Snetterton that coincided with the series' summer break provided the ideal opportunity to assess the problem. Mat is feeling confident that it will have helped: "We're making progress just working through things and hopefully we can be back where we should be - on the podium."

The NGTC Focus was debuted at Snetterton last year before going on to record its first win at Silverstone later in the season. Mat feels that returning to circuits where it has raced successfully in the past will help. "Every circuit we've been to up to now we've not been to before (with the NGTC Focus)," he said. "Snetterton is going to be the first one that we've got data that we can correlate to, so I think it is going to help us. We need a change in fortune."

Regardless of the car's ultimate form, Mat is looking forward to returning from the summer break: "I think Snetterton's a good circuit for the Touring Cars, and it also provides good racing during a race weekend."
