BTCC champ Shedden: "Snetterton is always a great event"

Wednesday, July 31 2013

Reigning Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden can't wait to get back into action at Snetterton this weekend (3/4 August) as the series returns from its summer break.

The champion has endured mixed fortunes in the opening half of the season but he prefers to look on the positive side. "I think my performance has been good," he summarised. "I just need a bit of luck and I'll be fine. Ten podiums form fifteen races is a good average!"

Unlike most of the field, Honda Racing sat out the recent tyre test but it won't have hurt their chances as Gordon explained: "Unfortunately the test didn't work for us due to a clash with the Goodwood Festival of Speed and other Honda promo activity. We tested at Snetterton on 24 July and ran through our programme then."

Gordon's title is under serious threat from fellow Civic racers Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan, plus old adversary Jason Plato and now Colin Turkington. He is aware of the challenges ahead: "Four champions and the current Independents' champion in the top five places means the second half of the year is going to be really exciting." He's also not expecting to sacrifice his own chances to help secure the title for team mate Neal: "Not yet, it's my title just now and I have no intentions of giving it up!"

Like the first half of the season, Gordon has enjoyed highs and lows at Snetterton and this is fresh in his mind when looking forward to the weekend. "I'm obviously hoping to avoid a repeat of the fire which almost ruined my weekend last year," he said. "Hopefully I can replace that with some hot results!

"Snetterton is always a great event with a real mix of iconic corners and new challenges."
