Former champ Turkington to make full-time BTCC return in 2013

Friday, January 18 2013

Former Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington will return to the series this season, which commences at Brands Hatch this Easter (30/31 March).

The Northern Irishman will return to the WSR squad with whom he claimed his title win in 2009. Racing under the eBay Motors banner, the team have recently announced that they will be building three BMW 1-series cars to NGTC specification.

Turkington's return has confirmed the line-up at eBay Motors, and he joins team stalwarts Rob Collard and Nick Foster. Collard narrowly missed out on a shot of the title at the final round last year, and the outfit has high hopes of greater success in 2013. The announcement means that at least four champions will be on the grid this season, with Gordon Shedden also defending his crown from old rivals Matt Neal and Jason Plato.

"I'm really excited to be back in the BTCC with eBay Motors for the 2013 season," said Turkington. "I have a long relationship with WSR and we've experienced some great success together in both the BTCC and WTCC. I am hoping to bring that success once again this year. Getting behind the wheel of the NGTC specification BMW will be a new challenge and I can't wait to be back on the grid for the opening round at Brands Hatch on 31 March."

Team mate Collard added: "Colin and I raced together in 2006 and his addition to the team sees us look stronger than ever. I hope to build on last year's strong performances and will be looking to win races in the new BMW 125i M Sport."

Meanwhile legendary Team Principal Dick Bennetts confirmed the team's ambition for the year: "It's really great to have Colin back on board for the 2013 BTCC season. With Rob, Nick and now Colin, I believe eBay Motors have a very strong driver line-up capable of challenging for championship honours."

Tickets for the opening round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on 30/31 March are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
