Stuart Oliver powers to race five win at Snetterton

Monday, August 26 2013

Multiple British Truck Racing champion Stuart Oliver claimed his second win of the season in race five at Snetterton this afternoon.

Oliver started from second on the grid, and then held off the advances of reigning champion Matt Summerfield to take the victory.

Oliver took the lead on lap one, powering around the outside of pole sitter Ben Horne at Riches. Summerfield also made immediate progress from sixth on the grid to claim second by the third corner, as Horne once more fell to the tail end of the Division One trucks.

Summerfield, hoping for his third win of the weekend then set about challenging Oliver for the lead, with Summerfield attempting moves around the outside of Riches, Palmer and Agostini on lap two without avail.

Summerfield was on the outside of Riches on lap four as he challenged again, and Oliver was clearly under great pressure as he ran wide exiting Hamilton, although keeping the position.

He tried again at Palmer on lap five, but again Oliver held firm, as he did when the pair went side by side again on the Bentley straight.

The two champions lapped closeley until a dramatic final lap. With the lead duo still squabbling over the position, Steve Thomas had closed, and attempted to pass Summerfield at Palmer in the final moments. The pair made contact at Palmer and Summerfield slewed into the barriers, but was able to resume, falling to fifth position.

The collision gave Oliver a clear lead, while race four winner Collett was promoted to second. Thomas claimed third ahead of David Jenkins, with Summerfield fifth and Horne sixth.

Graham Powell took Division Two honours ahead of David Smith and Simon Reid.
