Close truck battle expected at Snetterton this weekend

Tuesday, August 20 2013

A tense fifth round of the British Truck Racing Championship leaves the points standings at a finely balanced as the drivers heads to Snetterton 300 this Bank Holiday weekend (25/26 August).

Wins for David Jenkins, his first of the season, allowed him to close the gap on points leader Mat Summerfield. However the latter also tasted success at Donington, and remains the man to beat this weekend, with a 27 point lead. Richard Collett and Steve Thomas are also in contention, with returning champion Stuart Oliver eager to retain his title hopes.

In Division 2, David Smith completed a clean sweep of five victories, with Bungay's Jim Bennett scoring podium finishes to leave him just six points off the title lead. Brian Burt remains ahead but the positions are poised to change this weekend.

The new-for-2013 race format gives the slower Division 2 trucks a head start at the beginning of each race, with finishing positions reversed for each subsequent encounter. This has provided consistently thrilling action and this weekend's round, on the Snetterton 300 circuit with its tight infield section surrounded by panoramic spectator banks, should be a classic.

The 1,000bhp racing trucks will also hit 100mph on the Senna and Bentley Straights, with dramatic powerslides around the corners. There are two truck races on Sunday after qualifying, with three on Bank Holiday Monday.

Spectators can also enjoy action from Pickup Trucks, Legends Cars and there will be a showtruck parade and display. The action starts at 10am on Sunday and recent improvements to the venue include new grandstands at Bombhole and Murray's corners, plus a free children's adventure playground.
