British GT releases race formats for 2012 season

Thursday, January 26 2012

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship, which visits three MSV circuits in 2012, has released more details of how the events at each venue will run this year.

Oulton Park will host the opening round of the season on 7/9 April and features two one hour contests on the undulating Cheshire circuit in front of a huge crowd over the Easter weekend on one of the most picturesque tracks on the calendar.

The series then visits the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 23-24 June, with a two hour race taking place on one of the fastest tracks of the season on the Sunday.

After running on the revamped Snetterton 300 circuit in 2011, British GT then returns to the extended Norfolk venue on 4-5 August for another pair of hour long races.

SRO Championship manager Benjamin Franassovici is optimistic the British GT is firmly on the up after a couple of difficult seasons in recent times: "We're confident that the 2012 championship will be the best yet and 2011 was a great year for us.

"Judging by the unprecedented levels of interest we have already had for January we are on track for another exciting British GT season. We are working on adding some new cars to join us this season and I can't wait for race one at Oulton Park."

Recent teams to confirm a British GT presence in 2012 include Barwell Motorsport's switch from an Aston Martin GT4 to a BMW Z4 GT3, reigning champions Trackspeed with three Porsche 911s, and United Autosports who return with their Audi R8 LMS.

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship will once more share the bill with the Cooper Tires British F3 Championship. For more information and to book tickets for the opening round click here or call 0843 453 9000.
