Matt Summerfield takes a Snetterton Trucks clean sweep

Monday, August 27 2012

Matt Summerfield took another win in this afternoon's (Monday) Delphi British Truck Racing Championship Grand Final race, making it a clean sweep of race wins this weekend.

Summerfield once again dominated the race, finishing 14.5 seconds ahead of Steve Thomas and Heinz-Werner Lenz.

This time around the field made it cleanly through the first few corners, but as usual it was pole-sitter Summerfield at the head of the field. There were strong starts from Sascha Lenz who moved from seventh to fourth, while back row starter Richard Collett moved into the midfield.

David Jenkins, running in third, was forced to take avoiding action on lap two at Montreal when one of the Lenz drivers made a mistake in front of him with the truck square on across the track. This was the catalyst for an entertaining recovery drive to fourth place including a stunning move around the outside of Coram to pass Ben Horne for fifth place.

Jenkins was then clear to charge down on the father and son pairing of Heinz-Werner and Sascha Lenz, with Sascha making a mistake and retiring at Brundle on lap eight allowing Jenkins into fourth.

Richard Collett too had a stunning drive, and was up to eighth position at the end of lap three having started 16th and last. He made a daring move around the outside of Cees Zandbergen at Riches on lap four to move into seventh and benefitted from other drivers' mistakes to claim an impressive fifth place.

Cees Zandbergen claimed sixth with David Smith finishing seventh to claim Division Two honours. Graham Powell was runner up in Division Two with James Aitkenhead third.

Speaking afterwards Summerfield said; "It's been magic, we've caught it just right. It's been a superb weekend, the public and crowd have been great and the event has been amazing."
