In-form Onslow-Cole eager to continue podium trail this weekend

Tuesday, August 07 2012

Victory is not out of the question according to West Surrey Racing's Tom Onslow-Cole as he aims to ignite his season at Snetterton 300 in the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship this weekend (August 11/12).

The 25-year-old from London has been a regular contender for podiums this season but the top step has so far eluded him this year. With NGTC cars rapidly becoming the machines to beat, the multiple BTCC race winner believes a visit to the top step of the podium is still achievable in his ageing S2000 BMW.

He said: "It's going to be tough to win in the car to be honest. I think it has got a couple of wins left in it if the day is right and we get everything right with the car. I think there will be a lot of podiums in the second half of the season for us."

Onslow-Cole heads into the meeting as one of the championship's form drivers after picking up top three finishes at Oulton Park and Croft, which included an impressive second place finish in race three at the Yorkshire circuit last time out. After such a long summer break, he is eager to return to the track, but is wary he will face challenges up and down the grid.

He said: "It's been a six week break, so a fairly lengthy one and we have been busy but not necessarily with development.  We have got what we have got and we are looking forward to getting back under way with our proven package.

"I'd say the MG is going to be strong after the break but the Honda is the car to beat and having four of them helps to gather data. I think those guys will be very strong."

However, the BMW racer has the added bonus of achieving victory on the Snetterton 300 circuit just last weekend when he made a one off appearance in the Volkswagen Racing Cup. The extra track time could give him a slight edge this weekend.
