Norfolk's Lotus cars set to star at Snetterton British GT outing

Wednesday, May 04 2011

Norfolk's own Lotus will be starring on home territory this month (14/15 May), when two Evora GT4 sports cars compete in round two of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship on the newly redeveloped Snetterton 300 circuit.

British GT features a multi-million pound grid of supercar exotica, and the pair of Lotus Sport UK Evoras will make their home circuit debut in the series as part of the G4 class competition.

Powering the Norfolk squad's victory charge will be 27-year-old Ollie Jackson from nearby Attleborough, who graduated to the British GT Championship in 2011 after two successful seasons in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Jackson will be partnered by young gun Jack Drinkall, and the pair made a strong start to their 2011 title campaign last month when they scored a class podium in the British GT opening round at Oulton Park.

Lotus Sport UK's second Evora will be piloted by 19-year-old Leyton Clarke, who has already accrued sports car racing experience in the International GT Open Series and GT3 Cup, and Anglo-Swedish driver Freddy Nordstrom. The duo also enjoyed a strong season opener at Oulton Park, where they secured a second in class finish in race two.

In addition to a closely fought G4 class competition, the British GT Championship will bring an impressive selection of GT3 sports cars to Norfolk, headed by reigning champion David Ashburn and his team-mate Richard Westbrook in a Trackspeed Porsche 997.

Ashburn and Westbrook took victory and a second place in Cheshire, beaten to the line in race two by the Scuderia Vittoria Ferrari 458 of Charles Bateman and Michael Lyons - which capitalised on two safety car periods to score a stunning win after starting 25th on the grid.

Among the other powerful supercars to look out for at Snetterton are a pair of United Autosports Audi R8s, the new Mercedes SLS AMG 'gullwing' in the hands of 2009 champions David and Godfrey Jones, and the Rosso Verde Ferrari 430 of Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen.

British Touring Car legend Anthony Reid has switched to sports cars this season in a Chevron GR8, whilst former BTCC race winner Jonathan Adam will partner Andrew Howard in a Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin DBRS9.

Free practice and qualifying for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will take place on Saturday 14 May, followed by a two-hour endurance race on Sunday 15 May.

There will also be three further headline races from the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series, along with support action courtesy of Caterhams, the British Formula Ford Championship and the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Spectators can also enjoy off-track entertainment including an F1 simulator game, a free of charge pit lane walkabout and driver autograph session on Sunday and a children's activity area featuring trampolines and water zorbing.

Tickets for the British F3 and GT Championships at Snetterton on 14/15 May are now on sale from £17 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the link below.
