Felipe Nasr sets British F3 pace at Snetterton

Friday, May 13 2011

Cooper Tires British F3 Championship leader Felipe Nasr set the pace in the final test sessions for this weekend's (14/15 May) third round at Snetterton on Friday, ahead of the first major event to take place on the new 300 circuit.

Brazilian Nasr, who drives for the Carlin team, topped the timesheets in both hour-long sessions, setting his quickest lap of the day during the afternoon.

Nasr's fastest lap of 1m 39.542s was well inside the current 300 circuit lap record of 1m46.044s, which was set by Aaron Steele in the MSV F3 Cup during the inaugural meeting on the new layout in March.

Local driver Rupert Svendsen-Cook from Ipswich, team-mate to Nasr, also impressed in Friday testing when he set the second quickest time in both sessions. "I was pleased with my time," he said, "and hopefully we can continue this practice pace into qualifying and the races. The weather may play a part, though: local instinct tells me there may be rain on the way!"

Fortec's Will Buller was the third quickest driver of the day, ahead of the Double R Dallara of Brazil's Pipo Derani and Sino Vision's Hywel Lloyd in fourth and fifth respectively.

Third Carlin driver Kevin Magnussen, son of former Grand Prix driver Jan, secured sixth quickest, whilst Pietro Fantin was the fastest Hitech car in seventh.

Colombian Carlos Huertas finished testing eighth fastest, with Fortec's Harry Tincknell and Australian Double R driver Scott Pye rounding out the top ten.

Snetterton will host British F3 qualifying at 10.40am on Saturday, followed by race one on Saturday afternoon and races two and three on Sunday. There will also be a two-hour endurance race from the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.
