Miki Monras fastest in opening session of F2 test at Snetterton

Wednesday, March 30 2011

Miki Monras was the fastest driver in the opening test session as Formula Two took to the new Snetterton 300 circuit for the first time.

The Spanish driver, who competed in GP3 last year, will make the step up to F2 in 2011, and impressed with a lap time of 1:37.211s - the fastest time set around the new layout at the Norfolk circuit.

Will Bratt, driving an F2 car for the first time since the 2010 season finale at Valencia, took no time to get back on the pace and was second fastest, with Tobias Hegewald third. Local driver and Silverstone pace-setter Alex Brundle was fourth.

The weather here at Snetterton is cool, cloudy and dry but showers are expected this afternoon.

Speaking after the session, Monras explained that he thinks there is still more time to come in the remaining sessions; "If the weather stays like this and it doesn't rain later I think we can be a bit faster."

The Spaniard also enjoyed driving the new Snetterton layout; "the track is really nice and it was enjoyable at the beginning, trying to find the limit and every lap I was improving my times. At the end I was close to the limit I think, and I really like this track, it's really quick and it's good to test things with the car and with a lot of corners. You don't have a lot of time to rest which is good to train physically and I'm quite happy with the final result."
