Ex-F1 driver Johnny Herbert hails Snetterton 300

Wednesday, March 23 2011

Former F1 Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert is the latest high profile name to applaud the multi-million pound redevelopment of Snetterton circuit, after the Essex racer sampled the new 2.99-mile layout during an exclusive test last week.

Herbert was testing with the United Autosports squad, ahead of an announcement this week that he will pilot an Audi R8 for the team in this year's Spa 24 hour race.

"I think overall MSV has done a very good job," he remarked, "its given the circuit more character. There are some corners there that are quite tricky but then quite enjoyable at the same time, and it's great that the corners aren't all the same.

"I like Turn Three, Palmer - you can't really see the apex of the corner but its a good turn as it really opens up on you as you go into Agostini. Then Hamilton is one of those trickier corners where you don't know if it's third or fourth gear. You think you can carry a lot of speed into it but then you end up running wide. I think there's potential for mistakes, which will create opportunities for overtaking.

"The trickiest corner now is probably Coram as it's just so long. It just keeps on turning, turning and turning and the car is right on the edge before the hard switch into Murrays. This might cause a few difficulties for some drivers, but then it might spice it up at the same time!

"I think the biggest change at Snetterton is the braking, as you've now got hard braking into Montreal, Agostini and Brundle."

United Autosports will return to Snetterton this May when driver pairings Matt Bell/Mike Guasch and John Bintcliffe/Jay Palmer take to the track in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Tickets for the British F3 and GT Championships at Snetterton on 14/15 May cost from £17 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click on the link below.
