Samsung Crescent Suzuki rider John Hopkins tops BSB warm-up

Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki's John Hopkins starts from the pole position in the opening MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship race at Snetterton this afternoon and this morning the American topped the warm up session after forcing Shane 'Shakey' Byrne back to second.

Byrne was the pace-setter in the opening stages of warm up in the heat of Snetterton and the HM Plant Honda rider looked set to top the times for the first time this weekend but with just two minutes remaining the Californian again went fastest.

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill was third after moving second at the five minute mark, before Hopkins improvement dropped him back a place, but he starts from the front row for the first race. Alex Lowes was the leading MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider in fourth after a strong session this morning.

Jon Kirkham on the second Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki was fifth with Ryuichi Kiyonari in sixth as the reigning champion made further changes to boost his pace in warm up ahead of the first race later this afternoon.

Swan Yamaha's Michael Laverty was seventh ahead of Gary Mason with the Motorpoint Yamaha duo of James Westmoreland and Loris Baz rounding out the top ten. Josh Brookes who starts from the front row of the grid rounded out warm up in eleventh place. Mirror.co.uk BSB Evo pole-sitter Graeme Gowland remained fastest ahead of Glen Richards and Scott Smart.
