Byford looks forward to BTCC debut at home circuit

Friday, July 29 2011

Colchester's Martin Byford is busy preparing for his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship debut at Snetterton on 6/7 August. He will compete in the UK's most popular car racing series against a field of drivers experiencing the new 300 circuit for the first time.

The 39-year old will race a VW Golf prepared by AmD Milltek Racing.com for the remainder of the season. The car has already achieved promising results in the hands of Tom Onslow-Cole, who Byford competed against in the Renault Clio Cup, a series in which he became champion in 2007, adding to a class title in British Formula 3.

Sudbury-born Martin's preparations for the race continued at Brands Hatch recently, when he tested the Golf for the first time on the Indy circuit.

"It's fantastic and AmD Milltek Racing have given me a wonderful opportunity", Martin said. "I have got to thank an awful lot of people who have allowed it to happen. I've tested at Brands Hatch and this is the only day I will have in the car before Snetterton. I've been trying to get a handle of the car and see what it does when you hustle it. I've got a lot to learn. I'm incredibly privileged to have got the drive.

"I haven't raced the new Snetterton 300 circuit but I have done some testing there," he continued, "so I know my way around it. It shouldn't be too big a problem. It's my home circuit so I have done thousands and thousands of laps around the old circuit and the 300 is a great challenge."

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton are available from £25, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. To book, call 0843 453 9000 or click the link below.
