Snetterton gears up for its annual 24 hour race

Sunday, August 14 2011

Snetterton hosts its annual 24 hour race this Bank Holiday (27/28 August), with a packed support bill. With the cars are racing around the shorter 200 circuit, the new spectator banks will provide spectacular views of the action both day and night.

Saturday features a full day of qualifying and racing action starting with the BARC Dunlop Clubmans Cup, where Paul Gibson and Marcus Bicknell are protecting class leads. The front-engined sports racers also feature in the Tran-x Classic Clubmans Championship and amongst the classes Mark Charteris and Clive Wood are the frontrunners.

The Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship sees class leads being defended by Jim Baynam, Huds Johal, Peter Higton and Will Sharpe. The series is open to sportscars from Midgets and MGBs to MGFs and TFs, plus hot hatches and saloons from the 1980s to early 2000s.

Tin-top action continues with the Honda V-Tec challenge, covering pretty much anything from the Japanese manufacturer, from humble Civics to highly-tuned racecars.

The main race of the weekend commences at 5pm as the classic Citroën 2CVs set off on the first of many laps over the 24 hour duration. With two qualifying sessions late on Friday evening, the drivers will be accustomed to driving in low light and the teams of mechanics prepared to change anything from a tyre to a complete engine!

The 24-hour endurance race is also the final round of the 2011 ECAS 2CVParts.com Championship, which is currently being led by Sammie Fritchley, with strong opposition from Simon Turner. However this round is just as renowned for guest teams and drivers, with many competing in their first round-the-clock race!

Tickets for the Citroën 24 Hour 2CV Race are available from £10, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information, call 0843 453 9000 or click the link below.
