Kevin Magnussen tops Snetterton British F3 test

Wednesday, April 06 2011

Carlin newcomer Kevin Magnussen set the pace on the opening day of the Cooper Tires British F3 Championship's official pre-season test at Snetterton on Tuesday.

20 cars took to the track to sample the new 300 configuration for the first time, ahead of the series' race meeting - the first major event to take place on the redeveloped 2.99-mile circuit - next month.

18-year-old Magnussen, son of former F1 driver and 1994 British F3 Champion Jan, led the field by a narrow margin of five tenths in the morning session, before improving his lap time by six tenths during the afternoon.

Magnussen's team-mates Carlos Huertas and Felipe Nasr finished the opening day second and third in the timesheets, whilst Double R's Pipo Derani was the quickest non-Carlin driver in fourth.

Briton Rupert Svendsen-Cook set the fifth fastest time ahead of Oulton Park pace-setter Scott Pye.

The damp but drying conditions suited Sino Vision's Adderly Fong, who steered his Mercedes-powered Dallara to seventh ahead of British Fortec duo William Buller and Harry Tincknell. Hitech's Pietro Fantin rounded out the top ten.
